2026-Present:

  • Post-Doctoral Fellow  – Geras Centre for Aging Research, Department of Medicine, McMaster University

Bio: Dr. Daniella Vellone is a post-doctoral fellow at the Geras Centre for Aging Research within the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. She completed her PhD in Medical Sciences at the University of Calgary, where her research focused on mild behavioural impairment (MBI), particularly apathy, as an early behavioural marker of Alzheimer disease. Her doctoral work examined the relationship between MBI-apathy and dementia risk, Alzheimer disease biomarkers, and brain structure. At the Geras Centre for Aging Research, Dr. Vellone is extending this work to examine whether early behavioural changes associated with dementia risk also identify older adults vulnerable to mobility decline and loss of independence. Her long-term research program aims to integrate behavioural, cognitive, and functional markers to identify vulnerability earlier in the course of neurodegenerative disease and inform clinically actionable strategies to preserve autonomy and independence in later life..
