Welcome to the Geras Centre for Aging Research!
We are an interdisciplinary research centre embedded within Hamilton Health Sciences and affiliated with McMaster University. At Geras, our work brings together dedicated clinicians, scientists, trainees, and community partners united by a shared vision to empower older adults to age with dignity, independence, and optimal health.
Our team spans world-class researchers, clinicians, and learners whose expertise includes aging, brain health, frailty, bone health, rehabilitation, mobility, and resilience. Through collaboration and knowledge mobilization, we generate evidence that informs practice, shapes policy, and strengthens health systems that support older adults and their care partners.
Since our establishment in 2015, the Geras Centre has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized hub for aging research. We have secured highly competitive research funding, built strong partnerships with local and national organizations, and supported the training of a large and growing community of emerging scholars. Our work has resulted in over 1,500 peer-reviewed publications and extensive engagement through local and national media, reflecting our commitment to research that is rigorous, relevant, and impactful.
Our research extends beyond academic settings to influence real-world care and policy. Geras initiatives have been featured in national policy discussions, including Canada’s National Dementia Strategy, and have reached thousands of healthcare providers and older adults across the country. Clinical and implementation studies, such as the PREVENT Trial, continue to advance evidence-based practices in long-term care, while programs like iGeriCare, GeriMedRisk, and Cognitive Groove translate knowledge into accessible, practical resources. Through partnerships and innovative education platforms, including workshops and digital media, our work reaches communities across Canada and around the world.
None of this progress would be possible without the collaboration and trust of our partners, funders, advisors, members, patients, and family caregivers. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributes to and believes in our work.
On our site, you will find information about our research, training, partnerships, and opportunities to engage with the Geras Centre.
