Dr. Patricia Hewston is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the GERAS Centre for Aging Research within the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. She is a registered occupational therapist (COTO [2012-present]) and rehabilitation scientist (Queen’s University – Ph.D. Rehabilitation Science [2012-2016]).
In recognition of academic excellence and leadership, Dr. Hewston has received 24+ academic awards including the prestigious Labarge Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mobility in Aging and Canadian Frailty Network Interdisciplinary Fellowship. With a strong foundation in aging and mobility, Dr. Hewston is the GERAS DANCE scientific curriculum lead. During her post-doctoral fellowship, she developed an “off-the-shelf” product with online certification courses for certified GERAS DANCE instructors with AGE-WELL SIP Accelerator Program funds. With commitment to scaling ideas to commercialization, she completed the Harvard Business School Online – Leadership Principles certificate program (HBS Student Profile), Harvard Business School Online – Management Essentials certificate program and McMaster University Health Ventures Program. Dr. Hewston is passionate about finding innovative ways to keep older adults healthy and active as long as possible.
