After completing medical school (1999) and family medicine residency (2001) at Queen’s University, Dr. Shadd worked as a family physician in small town Manitoba and rural northwestern Ontario. In 2004, he enrolled in the palliative care fellowship at the University of Manitoba. He then worked as a palliative care physician in Winnipeg for one year, Kingston for four years, and London for six years. He has worked in clinical settings ranging from home to hospice to outpatient clinics and tertiary palliative care units. For the last five years he has been lead physician of the complex care hospital based palliative care unit at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Parkwood Institute. He completed his Master’s degree in 2013, and has participated in a wide range of research projects and educational activities.
