Congratulations to Dr. Justin Lee who was selected as one of the students from McMaster to compete in the CIHR National Research Competition in Winnipeg with other selected PhD students from their respective Universities across Canada
The GERAS Centre recently entered a strategic partnership with Ably Medical in Norway in order to introduce one of the world’s first “smart” hospital beds funded by CABHI. The GERAS Centre and Hamilton Health Sciences has since received international recognition in the Norwegian news for the Ably bed study while the bed was being piloted at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Congratulations to Dr. Ahmed Negm who was recently awarded the Leadership, Communication/Collaboration, and Publication Awards at the Faculty of Health Sciences Student Plenary Awards.
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), in partnership with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) and with the support of the Canadian Falls Intervention Faculty as released an evidence update on the Reducing Falls and Injuries from Falls Getting Started Kit
This Evidence Update is focused on the main findings from the systematic review conducted for the Falls BPG (including peer- reviewed literature published between January, 2011- August, 2016). For detailed information about the evidence used to inform the development of this Evidence Update, please refer to the Falls BPG.
In collaboration with YMCA locations across the Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford, Niagara region, GERAS will be scaling up the DANCE research study enabling seniors in other communities to benefit from high-quality programming that targets improvement in social, cognitive and physical function. Developed by Drs. Courtney Kennedy, Patricia Hewston, and Alexandra Papaioannou in collaboration with MIRA McMaster.

Dr. Richard Sztramko Launches IGeriCare
We are excited to share that iGeriCare has received CABHI funding allowing the IGeriCare team to move forward with the project. The team was invited to the Centre for Aging + Brain Health Innovation (CABHI) in Toronto.
IGeriCare is an online resource designed to help bring clarity to a diagnosis of dementia. This is an entirely free, high-quality tool that was developed right here at McMaster University by the team lead by Dr. Anthony J. Levinson, and Dr. Richard Sztramko, of GERAS.
